This version of World Walking is shutting down and moving to a new home. Read our announcement for more information.

I’m excited to announce that World Walking is moving to a new home, with a brand new website and mobile app!

If you wish to continue using World Walking, you must read the 'What do I need to do' section below.

What's changing?

For the past 12 years, worldwalking.org has been operated by World Walking, a Scottish based charity. Recently, donations have not kept pace with rising hosting costs and we’ve been unable to secure funding to update our app with improvements and new features. As a result, the current version of worldwalking.org is now closed for new registrations and will shut down on 1st May 2026.

I’m delighted to report, however, that World Walking has been completely re-developed behind-the-scenes to create a new, modern and sustainable version.

The new version is live at worldwalking.com (instead of .org) and has the same simple mission: to invite and motivate you to explore the world while walking. It also remains free for solo use. For those wishing to support the app or connect with friends in a group, there is a small monthly or annual subscription for ‘Plus’ features.

What do I need to do?

If you want to continue to bank your steps and explore the world, you will need to register a new account at worldwalking.com.

Please visit worldwalking.com/migrate for more information and for the steps you need to complete to copy your steps totals from the old system. Migration will only be possible until 1st October 2026. Your historical steps will only be imported if you choose to register with worldwalking.com using the same email address as you use for worldwalking.org. If you withdraw your consent to processing your data, you can delete your account at worldwalking.org/settings. If you don’t take any action, your data will be automatically deleted on 1st October 2026.

What if I’m not already registered?

It is no longer possible to register on worldwalking.org. If you’re interested in exploring the world by logging your steps, please register on the new version at worldwalking.com

I’d like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone for having used World Walking and especially those who have donated to our charity over the years. Without your support we would not have been able to keep going as long as we have.

Kindest Regards,

Duncan Galbraith
Founder of World Walking.
